In the past, CMG Construction has been involved in extremely varied and often very demanding projects. Over the years, clients have included…
Military Engineering Services (MES)
Having been involved with the MES since 1961, the company has gained considerable experience in their requirements over a multitude of projects.
The residential complex built at Navy Nagar, Mumbai, for instance, saw the construction of 11 buildings for naval officers, each being of 15 storeys. A total of 288 3-BHK units were built, with an additional 232 2-BHK units for junior officers. The complex was completed with internal/external electrification, fire fighting facilities and the complete road network.
Another old and regular client has been the Indian Navy’s dockyard in Mumbai, a relationship that dates back to 1986. Among the many projects the company built for the Navy are three key installations:
1.The HICE Workshop
2.The Submarine Base Complex
3.The FMU/SS Complex
Defense projects demand an extraordinary degree of precision and these three cases were done on a turn-key basis with internal/external electrification, fire fighting facilities, high capacity elevators and advanced 40 MT cranes installed.
GOA AIRPORT.
The company’s eight year stint of working on Goa Airport at Dabolim posed a fresh set of challenges. The runway is used both by civil aviation traffic and by the Naval Air Base – this runway was completed resurfaced in asphalt and concrete while it was in operation. A most demanding task which called for elaborate planning and time management as work carried out in the night had to be dry and ready for aircraft to land on the next morning. Completed in a record eight month time-span, this project received public commendation in the Government Gazette.
And that’s not all. From 1978 onwards, CMG Construction actually built most of the airport itself. This includes:
1. Runway
2. Air Traffic Control Building
3. Office Premises
4. Drama Theatre
5. Swimming Pool
6. Schools
7. Storage Depot
AIR INDIA MUMBAI.
Largest Boeing 747 Hanger at Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai for Air India, having a span of 135 mtrs.
Among the many jobs the company has done for Air India the following are noteworthy:
Construction of the Annexe Building at Kalina Airport, involving a 40,000 sq.ft. basement, ground, and two upper floors. Total area of construction was 2,11,500 sq. ft.
Construction of the office block-cum-engine workshop Kalina.
Construction of 42 residential apartments for the Airport Authority of India.
MUMBAI PORT TRUST
Yet another old and regular client is the Port Trust. Most recently the company has put up a 7 storey office building for them at Indira Dock and a 40-apartment residential block for their officers at Colaba.
Defense Services, Jamnagar
As part of the ongoing relationship with the defense services, the company constructed 2 steel-structure hangars for the Indian Air Force at Jamnagar. These were specialized and rather sophisticated structures with asbestos-concrete roofs, steel stanchion foundations and electrically operated sliding hangar doors.
The company also built married officers’ accommodation for both the Air Force and the Army at Jamnagar.
Central Railway, Pune
The flyover built for the Central Railway at Koregaon Park level crossing was another technical feat. The railway could not be shut down and the longest period between trains was a mere 4 hours. Twenty four pre-cast girders, each 89 feet in length and weighing 90 tons apiece had to lifted and positioned 10 metres above the railway line as part of the construction process.
The flyover was, of course, completed ahead of schedule.
